I don't care for the way Half Dimes fit in a Dansco. Worn coins turn in the holes and they don't show well in the fat pages.

The half dimes are the easiest set to complete. One complete stopper, the unique 1870-S. But say you want to put together the set in VF. In half dimes there are only two over $1K. The 1846 at $2K, and the 53-O no arrows at $1.5K. in the dimes there are 10 with four of them over $5K (one 5K, two 10k and one 20K.) and there is the unique 73-CC no arrows. In quarters there are 29 with prices up to nearly 30K ad of course the 73-CC no arrows with either 5 or 6 known that goes for six figures. Half dollars only have 12, but the 78-S will set you back $65K. Next is the 70-CC at only $8K. The dollars have 15, plus the 70-S. And 3 of those (not including the 70-S) will go for 5 figures.

Unless you have REALLY deep pockets the only one really doable is the half dimes.

I would suggest starting the half dollar set and just pick them up over time while working on an easy(er) collection at the same time so that you don't get frustrated. There's not an easy set at all amongst the seated series. I've been doing a set of proof seated dimes for over fifteen years and still have quite a ways to go.

Looks like half dimes are the best choice.

I think the half dimes are often a bit overlooked and underrated.

downloadfile-50.jpeg Half dimes are fun to collect , there are varieties , different types, yes a few are costly but most are not . Case in point I picked up a 1853 today at the local coin shop for $18.00. Image above.
Yeah it has a few issues but for 18 clams, and the coin for the most part a solid vf- 30.
There also Bust half dimes one of my favorite sites is on bust half dimes. This site has all the bust half dime die marriages . The photos are unreal and so sharp and detailed making it easy to attribute a coin.
Half dimes are over looked and for the most part underrated . I find dealers are more so willing to deal on a half dime. You'll find a lot that are album toned, clash marks, and once bitten you won't walk a show until you gone through each dealer inventory .

I'd say dimes if you have a "budget"

I voted for half dimes since it's attainable. Whatever you do, don't pick quarters. It's basically an impossible set to complete.
