I have, but these are mostly late 18th-century coppers, and they are nowhere near as flashy as a proof mercury dime. I tried imaging my proof example the other night, and it did not go well.
I'm familiar with what you speak of.... this one is on my list of coins to re-shoot when I get there. NGC MS-64 BN PL. Almost impossible to get a decent shot.
I think they’re all fine photos showing different aspects of the coin. #1 is my favorite overall, followed by #4. But, I really think static photos are not doing this coin any favors. I don’t remember who does it, but a member here does gif animations with a moving light source, and I think that would work very well for this coin, and PL coins in general. Alternatively, an actual video is probably going to be the best way to get this coin to show its true personality.
There are a couple of us who do gifs. @Randy Abercrombie is probably the guy you're thinking of, but I also do gifs occasionally. You are correct, a single static image is going to be difficult to completely capture this coin.
