I've collected since I was a kid. Now my kids are young adults. Not really serious about it - I just liked to pick up stuff and put it in blue Whitman Albums occasionally. I never submitted any coins for grading, but I started to pick some (graded coins) up along the way - because I was concerned about authenticity. I lurked here - on CoinTalk for some years and found out about the ICG special. At some point I decided because I'd acquired a 1923-S details Standing Liberty Quarter in a PCGS slab - that I would start a "top" set of the SLQs, that would all be graded and slabbed by the big four - PCGS, NGC, ANACS or ICG. Submitting to ICG and getting direct results on my coins and my opinions on same has been really helpful - I also like having them authenticated and judged by two / three professional graders (for only $10 on the CoinTalk special!!??!?!). So count me a huge fan of ICG. I did buy the discounted NGC membership for $99 with a $150 credit so I intend to try out NGC and I will also try out ANACS when they have a special that suits my collecting. I am just a collector - not a reseller and I don't worry about selling - though I have on occasion. I've seen overgraded and undergraded in all four of the big graders. If you want to resell, PCGS is probably the way to go. If you want good grades, I think you're in good shape with any of the four (though NGC seems best for world coins and medals and ANACS for Morgan VAM varieties).
