Hello Detecto, Of course it is difficult to choose just one country (and country lines have evolved over the last 2,700 years of coinage). I agree with BRG5658. I think the geographic area known as Italy today has produced the most beautiful silver coins.
Three more silver coins from Italy (and a silver replica of a ship that an Italian used to discover the new world).
Dripping with art Thanks for the coin complement. There are many great-looking coins made during the reign of Victor Emanuel in Italy. Not all of them are silver. His reign covered WW1, WW2, fascism, peace, etc. IMO the coins of Italy (& Victor Emanuel's reign) are dripping with art.
Here are two previous CT threads where the 500 Lire coin is depicted & discussed. The young girl in medieval dress is one of my personal favorites. The reverse of this coin depicts the three ships used by Columbus. With a little shopping, you can probably find a really nice example of this silver 500 Lire for very little money. http://www.cointalk.com/t69049/ http://www.cointalk.com/t207551/
I wasn't referring to coinage but generic focus on their impact in history, guess a got a little frenzied up after watching a documentary on ancient discoveries in History channel and this professor was yapping about how Greece was corner stone to our modern society.
Thanks, Collect, I will be on the look out for one. I am sure it will cost me more than $7 though. Do you know the silver content off hand?

I'm naturally biased because I am American, but I love the USA silver coins. Especially Morgans, plus I really like the look of the Trade Dollars. Just MHO though. :smile
