Which coins are on your Mount Rushmore of U.S. coinage?

This post by @Randy Abercrombie made me think of this. If you could erect a Mount Rushmore with four U.S. coins enshrined instead of U.S. presidents, which four coins would make the cut? You know, stuff that's legendary but not necessarily beyond your reach.

I started collecting as a youngster and I'm now approaching retirement age, and these were/are the legends in my mind :) I learned about them early on - your history and interests will be different than mine.

    • 1932-D Washington quarter
    • 1916-D Mercury dime

The first half disme - first minted US coin, right?
St Gaudens double eagle- best gold design
Walking Liberty half dollar - best silver designed coin
One of the big copper cents to cover the best copper coin...

My Mt Rushmore would be a little different than most peoples as I have no desire to own any of them. They are the famous ones that even non-collectors have heard of.

    1909 S VDB cent
    1955 doubled die cent
    1804 dollar

Lol I’m in agreement with you on these 4 other than the 55 double die. Which I always thought cool. A 1804 dollar is great but I’d rather have a 1794 or a 84 and 85 trade.

Looking at my list again, I could be easily convinced to remove the 55 double die and replace it with a 1895 Morgan...not as famous to non-collectors, but another coin that most US collectors seem to covet but which I have never desired.

Would also even out my mountain as only one Lincoln cent would be represented.

Yeah I was pretty shocked I read the thread and nobody went literal. Had a few ways to go with it but the teddy Roosevelt was the hard one of the 4.
