I bought 4 2001 proof sets on ebay in mid 2002 for $25 each right after the mint stopped allowing orders. In 2005 I sold 2 of the sets for a combined $294.

I bought an NGC graded 20th Anniversary Silver Eagle set a few months ago. They were supposed to be all 69's. I got a 69 reverse proof, a 69 uncirculated, and a 70 uncirculated. Big goof on the part of the seller. Too bad I didn't know who the seller was as I had bought about 3 sets of 69 grade at the same time from 3 different sellers. Made about $800 on that.

It refers to the the placement of the AM on the reverse (connected or separate).
Apparently some Proof dies were mixed in and used for regular production coins.

I once (not more than 10 years ago) bought a 1932 - D Washington for $3. Haven't sold it yet tho, so the profit is still building in it!

sorry thought I said... it's a SOLID F-12. I figured the coin was worth $35 and guessed he may have mis-marked it, so I asked the guy a second time what the price was... I didn't ask again.

Truthfully, it was 1997 and it was a $35 coin. Today is a different story. Seems most of the stuff that I bought before I took a break has appreciated quite a bit. I could never afford these coins today.

As an aside I was concentrating on Washingtons at the time and I also bought a very nice (slightly overdipped) 32-D in AU for about $300. I still have it too.

Elaine, I find myself thinking about this in answer to your original question:

I don't sell coins, I impound them. LOL Therefore, no profit. I think my heirs will have a field day tho. :D

I seem to do very well with the flying eagle cents. I can double my money at an auction very easily!
