One was talking of a coin as to Mint State coin. What is bag wear? What is rolled of coins? Even if a coin has come from the mint. First: It has to dropped into a large container, then poured into a bag, or rolled wrapped, and boxed, then to be shipped. Now, what do you call a coin that has been through all this, and you get it in change, a roll, or bag. It's it "Mint State" or not? If it has gone through all this, then all coins are not "Mint State". Correct? The ones at the grading services, are all wrong, and we all have been taken advantage of.

oops yea i goofed, i thought the pics of the slabs were 63 an 64, not 63, 62, so coin 1 gotta be the 62 cuz of dings an lack of luster...

    I think they said - 1 62, 2 - 63

I think they are both AU.

Being in PCGS slabs, it must be AU 59 and 1/2.;)

I saw a little flattening of some of the highest details and thought it was a strike issue. I have read that some of the Indian's from branch mints were prone to poor strikes early on. Why do you think this is wear and not a strike issue?

For the same reason as I explained in another thread yesterday - because if you look closely you can tell the difference between a weak strike and wear. A weak strike area will have a rough, almost bumpy texture. A wear area will be flat and smooth.

Those two coins have flat and smooth areas with contact marks on top of them.

Coin 1 is a 62 and coin 2 is the 63 - in my opinion.

Coin #1 resides in the PCGS MS63 CAC holder

Coin #2 resides in the PCGS MS62 CAC holder.

Very nice! Both of them look MS to me.

And that is why the only thing more subjective and convoluted than grading coins is the olympic figure skating scoring system.

Yes, but in this case, don't you have two solid parties that know what they're talking about and their opinion is solid, proven, reputable, etc.? PCGS says MS and what does the green sticker confirm? Not a downgrade, I gather.

Well certainly PCGS has given their professional opinion on the coins, but my point is we here, some of whom could be called experts, had many opinions on the coins. Who is to say if cracked out and resubmitted they would come back differently?

But AU, now that's pushing it a bit, isn't it?

I don't think it is. I can see why others think what they do based off the pictures.

Wow, in that case, professional dealers are getting a heck of a deal from PCGS, CAC, etc. They can claim a coin worth $1000+ to a Numismatist or Coin Expert, is valued at $7000+ or $15 000+. Is the integrity of PCGS and CAC compromised by that big a margin, in the interest of profit?

I'm sorry... but this is reality now... These coins ARE MS62 and MS63 according to the market. I am sending these coins out to a well known author and dealer in the area of branch mint gold who wanted them on approval but I'm sure be very happy to stock them at the prices I mentioned earlier.
