Where would you liquidate your entire collection ?

In addition to a local dealer, you might try to find a local coin club. Most have internal auction. Go to a few and get some similar items selling price. Then put yours up. Most of my club auctions for wholesale, sometime less, sometime more. The local coin store will usually go 10% less.

Now then, John, your best option, by far, to sell a collection such as you describe is to simply take it to a local coin shop and sell it outright. Or if you don't have a local coin shop then find a dealer on-line, contact him and ask if he would be interested in a collection like yours.

Now I'll tell you in advance, most will say no they are not interested in a collection like that. This is because coins in a collection like you are describing are far too common and most dealers don't even sell the stuff. But it is still your best option to go that way.

Why ? Because it is a ton of work, and requires a lot of time, to even try sell stuff like that on ebay ! And by the time you are done paying fees and selling at reduced prices you'll end up making roughly the same amount of money as if you sold the collection outright to a dealer.

This same scenario plays out for other collectors just like you, just about every day, over and over and over again. I'm not telling you this to discourage you, I'm telling you this to get you realize the reality of the situation.

P.S. I have a few ancients that I will never sell due to their sentimental value. ( some were gifts to my S.O. from members here. Those are precious to me. Thank you guys for the treasures, and memories.)

Ohh and to answer your original post question , in hell I'll keep it till my.munckin decides weither she wants to build it like a foundation or sell for college... Idealistically... But if must sell I'll wait till I'm on my death bed.. I'll die with a 1955 ddo type 1 in my grave
