I have a big old safe that belongs to my grandfather that one day I want to get into my house. It will take a front end loader. Hope my floor will support it , oh well. A freind of mine who works for the fire department recommends that you put a safe as close to outside wall as possible in case of fire , it will suffer less heat damage.
I've been advised to keep it in the basement because 1) The basement is usually the last part of the house to get hot in a fire. 2) Safes on upper floors can fall a considerable distance in a bad fire and that can add to the damage of the contents (not to mention anything that gets in their way!)
I would suggest putting your safe in the room with the least amount of windows. If you do not have a room without windows, choose one where they are small or high up in the wall. Most people would have trouble with a heavy safe, so they try to chuck it out a window and into a bed of a truck. The basement idea is pretty good, if it is not damp. Imagine a thief carrying a safe up a flight of stairs.
Ive'got a gun safe (5') and a 22" cube safe bolted, back to back, in a closet. Coins and guns in both. It would be hard to move them both.
Pine Ridge Res, that is the poorest county in America. I mean SERIOUS poverty. There is some serious history there to. As I understand it there is a major meth problem on those big poor reservations. Sorry to say it BD but you might want to think about pulling up roots and moving along.
I'd say in the basement so you can bolt it to the concrete. I don't have enough coins to justify getting a safe. I mainly collect coins to put in Whitman folders. One day i'll definitely have to get a safe. Probably when i move out.
well there is a big problem right there i dont have any fans except you and i dont even have a gf let alone a wife and the way things are going i have better chance of owning the 1933 double eagle than i have of findidng a wife ( i think it wouldnt be a bad trade i rather own the double eagle then be married) but if there are any takers out there in chocago for the safe or the relationship or the double eagle i am game
Mr. spock you can do like I have done so far. Get a safe deposit box for the more expensive coins. I have a box of coins hid in my guest bedroom closet. One in the utility room under a cabinet behind some old dishes and another box of coins that I can not remember where I hid them. I am working on the last part
I tell my friends that a safe only advertizes the position of the goodies when they are robbing you. A good idea to bolt it down to the floor with wood screws so that it is not too hard to remove, probably in the bedroom closet. Fill it with newspaper clippings and metal shims and then hide your money some place else in the house. The safe woud be the canary in the cage and if it was disturbed then you know something was amiss.
