[QUOTE="JayF, post: 3103000, member: 92530"]First off, it's clear you didn't read my post, typical and I expected that from you. So let me quote ME what I said :

That's what I said, unedited if you want to read it again. Now tell me where I disputed anywhere about this Ken guy and his book, I don't know him or his book. YOU are the one that mentioned Ken, not me and I never said anything about what you said about Ken. I don't know Ken, I didn't even know he wrote that book. Please quote me where I said anything about him and that book and I'll own up to it.

I never denied that people go to YouTube, didn’t say anything at all about where people go to get their info. My point was YouTubers repeat what's already a known fact and by that I mean their content are about coins that sold at insane prices at auctions/coin shows. When someone finds a rare coin and goes on heritage, guess what Heritage does? They promote that coin like crazy, they hype it up like it’s the last one that will ever be found. The higher the bid, the more money they get. I also said, if there was no YT, this same info would be in some website and they would hype the same info there..information about a coin that sold for tens of thousands. People go to YouTube because it's the simplest and easiest platform to get information. The content of those videos are from other sources.

Your argument was "observed fact" because that's what you mostly remember seeing from all the new posters on CT. I call that selective memory. I've seen some reference doubleddie or varietyvista which also publishes the 82 copper cent, the 55 and 69 DDO and other get rich quick coins. Why are you not up in arms over those websites?

As for TPGs, check the price guide on PCGS.com, look at the prices of cents in different MS grade. Cent that is set at thousands of dollars, did PCGS poll the youtubers to get that price? No. Now I learned recently (from a thread I started) that TPGs sets their price guide based on the market (buying & selling) which guess what, happens at auction houses/coins shows and not at clown shows OR YOUTUBE. If you're going to blame someone or something, you should look at them because they're the ones that drives the buying and selling. They help drive the price of a coin a bazillion percent more than its face value. When someone finds a semi-rare cent and goes on Heritage, guess what Heritage does? They promote it like crazy, they hype it up because they want people to fight for a penny...A PENNY. The higher the bid gets, the more money they make. I started that thread because I was checking how much modern zinc coins are worth, and saw a 2016 cent set price to be 2500.00 in MS-68. Whether it will sell for that is anybody's guess but when people see that...guess what they think.. "EASY MONEY!"

This is why I said YT is NOT the root of this get rich quick mentality.
