You're not alone. I thought the exact same thing for months until someone said the correct definition.
Actually the definition of slider is: [h=2]slid·er[/h] [slahy-der] Show IPA noun 1. a person or thing that slides. 2. Baseball. a fast pitch that curves slightly and sharply in front of a batter, away from the side from which it was thrown. 3. any of several freshwater turtles of the genus Chrysemys, of North America, having a smooth shell usually olive brown with various markings above and yellow below: some, especially C. scripta, are raised commercially and the young sold as pets, rarely surviving to adulthood. OR it can be: A "Slider" is an coin that technically grades AU-58, in other words it shows just the barest hint of wear on the high points, but retains almost all of the original luster. The term "slider" comes from the commercial consderation that the coin can "slide" up in grade from AU to become an "Unc". A disparaging term used by some, primarily on the West Coast, is "Beltway BU". This recognizes that the majority of the problem seems to stem from the practices of dealers on the East Coast. Shame that the guy who gave this definition on the internet slammed the East Coast dealers!!...lol And then from Coin Market Slang off the internet: Slider A coin having light friction on the high points. Unscrupulous dealers (oxymoron) like to purchase at About Uncirculated prices and bump up the grade when selling. By bumping up the grade to full Uncirculated, a heady profit can be reaped. Coins that are close to Uncirculated grade are sometimes referred to as Super Sliders, or Choice About Uncirculated. I have also heard the following rubbery terms used: Looks Unc., Nearly New, New Enough, Nearly There, Almost There, Virtually Uncirculated, and Nice. What a battery of winsome sounds for "slightly used!" But yes, I well aware that people might buy bags or large quantities of Morgans, etc and put them into rolls. But it seems like it would take a lot or work to cull through say a bag of $1000 to find enough to put into supposed UNC rolls. I mean I have not seen anywhere where I could buy a 1k bag of UNC Morgans!! I'd love to find one of those and go through it and see what's there. Maybe they exist somewhere. You are talking about a lot of money to come up with what could be 10-15 rolls of UNC Morgans, halves, etc to post on Ebay every day or two. And although Morgans might be easy to come by, still, that's a lot of UNC coins. I am not a 30 year wisened collector but have dabbled here and there over the years until last year when I got into doing something for my second retirement coming up next year. I enjoy the input from y'all.
IDK what to say, they are out there. I was at a large show a few months ago and a dealer had 3 or 4 bags of BU morgans. I beleive they were solid date dates, but like others have said I am sure they were at least scanned over by people. Find a good dealer and let him know you have the cash, and would seriously be interested in a bag of them. They are out there and can be bought if you are serious and have the cash.
