Where do I start?

Organize them by country first, which will teach you a lot about them. Consider becoming a collector or at least care taker of your Grandfather's collection. You can put them in 3 ring notebooks, they make pages to hold 2x2 containers that some of your coins are in.

I have my father's coins he picked up in his many travels. From them i can get a good idea what countries he visited and roughly what year.
