Since you can't afford to buy them by the box, ask Loomis if they will sell you rolls. It doesn't hurt to ask. All they can do is say, "No!". ~ Chris

I would also recommend going to your bank. It has been several weeks since I visited mine, but pre-covid I generally went once a week to get various coin rolls to go through. A box of dollars is a bit beyond my comfort level, but a roll of dollars is just $25. The tellers have always been nice to me and have even gone into the vault to get a few rolls if they didn't have them available in their drawer. I initially confessed to them that I was getting back into coin collecting, and they tolerate me.

I don't do the rolls anymore, but a few years ago, I banked in a rural community in Calif. and the teller and I got along great! One day he went to the vault and brought me about 50 Ike Dollars and 10 rolls of Pres. Dolls. in orig Brinks rolls...Bank of America is the best in my experience to provide me with the coins I asked for! Later on, I asked for boxes of halves and they always had a fresh box for me...You need to find a teller you like and work it out!

I've only been able to find them via the DC and Portland light rail fare machines. The post offices by me do not have those postage stamp machines that used to give change in $1 coins. Apparently that ceased many moons ago.

Since I don't get to DC or Portland too often, I've had to resort to the bank. They're generally pretty nice about it and aim to please. Yeah, I do have a savings account there, so that might help.

I've found them at self-serve car washes, too. The last time I used one of those I got a Presidential dollar and an SBA dollar. I'm in the Akron area, BTW. Maybe it's an Ohio thing. AND...I asked my bank teller to save me any large dollar coins (Ikes or anything else...you never know...). This past February she told me someone cashed in a box of 60 Ikes! I bought all of them. No silver, no enhanced Earths, no other varieties, but still I think I did well. You still can find them if you ask and look hard enough.

I went to a couple post offices and the self-serve kiosks only take credit cards. Darn it!

That's a good idea. I deliver for UPS and some of the routes I run have stores like that. I'll ask next time I am in!

In south Florida the tri-rail kicks out dollar coins for change in the ticket machines.

I can usually get $20-$50 a week from the nearby bank to the station, sometimes more. I don't mess with the machines at the station though. The riders will turn them in for paper bills and by Friday there's a roll or two, sometimes three at the bank they've collected up.

Chris, can we deal directly with Loomis? If so, how do we contact them?

No you can't deal directly with Loomis unless you have a business with license and a storefront location (commercial address) and pay for their armored services under contract. It's even less cost effective in fees. I guess you could arrange a one time pickup and delivery to a bank though, but better if the bank makes this arrangement and uses their existing account.

Now if you have a legit business and using them to collect drop bags and deliver change for your business, it's a contract for however you need it, 4x a day, 1x a day, 1x a week 1x a month or any variation and they take into account the entire trip to collect and deliver to the bank. They also do hazmat or valuable non currency shipments like paintings ect. too but it ain't cheap, not at all. They charge a couple bucks a minute "wait time" also.

Anyways. It's not cost effective unless you've already got service and wanted to add change service like once a week or something then it may not bee too bad.

They all vary a bit but let's say
    1. Negotiated pricing by distance of the trip and number of days of service.
    2. Shipment liability insurance $0.10 per $1000.
    3. 7 minutes maximum wait time, excess time $1.75 a minute.
    4. $.55 fee per bag over 5 bags.
    5. Fuel surcharge.

Loomis has "cash exchange" it's large bills for small bills and coins and it's for service contact holders. Basically you order what you need on their website or phone and they do it on you next service day.
