Selassie was, and still is by many in Jamaica, very highly revered. Some of the population there considered him to be god-like. So even though Selassie was Emperor of Ethiopia - those are definitely Jamaican coins.

GDJMSP,it is actually listed in Krause under Ethiopia,as the expression 'E$' is a real giveaway.
This means 'Ethiopian Dollars',which is derived from the Maria Theresa Thaler restrikes that circulated in both Ethiopia & in Eritrea (where it was known as the Talero).

Well on the Sellasie coin it is a ethopian coin but was my first .999. The reason why I got it was because it was listed under book value and was in excellent condition so I got it off of ebay. Plus it was .999 and I wanted to join the silve .999 club :p

Next the reason why i put it with my jamaican set is because it was haille sellasie who is of great imporatance to the rastafarian movement.

First off like I mentioned before haille sellasie pre coronation name was Ras Tafari Makonnen in which you get Rastafari a movement started around the 30's and going into todays time in which in the early years of the 70's sellasie died ( which is under some contreversy). Bob and haille have met. It is said that when sellasie came to jamaica one rainy day that as soon as he stepped off the plane it stopped raining. (this information is told to me by some rasta elders and some jamaiacans that where there that I talk to). Anyways this following of him had to do with people getting back to there point of origin. Anywhere where you look at true rastafarism you will see sellasie depicted.

Some saw sellasie as a tyrant and others as a god. Think a more appropriate word would be a prophet.

Next is the heritage in which selassie is a decendent although not a direct decendent of solomen (which can be a bad thing since solomen worshipped idles and the such).

Anyways that is why I have it with my jamaiacan coins because it will be the only other coin I will have anyways since the rest are all Jamaiacan.

    lol

Anyways just thought I would explain this since when I did show it just said it was .999 but well aware that it is from ethopia.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes and grammar.

The above mentioned website seems to have a nice selection of Jamacian coins. I have never used this dealer so I can not say anything else but have fun with your viewing.

AK47,I can perfectly understand why you felt sad at having to change all of your Jamaican currency back into Canadian currency.Next time you are over
there & you want to get some Jamaican coins, you should take some cardboard,so you can mount the coins that you want.Be careful to stuff it with some
cotton wool to pack it between the 2 pieces of cardboard. Then you would post it from the local post office. That way,you would not only get some nice coins as souvenirs, but you can soak the stamps off the envelope for your stamp collection.

With banknotes,it is a good idea to pack them between 2 pieces of cardboard, then you wrap the package in tin foil. Then you put into an envelope & post in the usual way.The purpose of the foil is to foil (a pun!) the x-ray machine in its attempt to detect cash.
