By old I mean, silver certificate, red seal, lime green seal, etc. I've never received one in change from a store, bank, atm, etc and was just wondering if anyone here has.
I don't know if you consider this "old" but I found this Barr dollar in change about 7 years ago - nothing since.
I have not found any old bills in pocket change recently but I have got quite at few saved for me at the bank. Last week I got a 1953a $2 red seal at the bank. My oldest bill in circulation was a 1929a $50 I got over the summer at the bank. In the small text it said, "Redeemable in Gold". I also have a 1934 (no letter after date) $10 lime green in beautiful condition, and 1934a $10 Silver Certificate back within a week of each other in circulation recently. In the past year I have found a few $1 silver certs, 1928g $5 red, 1934c $5 silver cert, 1934c $20 and $50. Also found two Barr notes, one is a star note too.
back in the 80's i had a girlfriend who worked as a teller at a local bank and saved me all the old bills that came in, cant remember anything since those...
At some point in the last year I found these two Silver Certificates And can't remember how long ago but have found a couple of these 1934 $10s as well
Thanks for posting everyone. I haven't been lucky enough to have any tellers save bills or coins for me (even after giving them donuts/muffins). I ask at the banks if they have any older bills, silver certificates, red seals, etc. Iv'e got 4 silver certificates (2 are stars), and a series 1928D red seal $2 bill. Looks like it's been a while since anyone has got one change. It must've been a pretty great feeling for those of you that have!
I see them come through where I work every now and then but I rarely keep them cause I'm more into coin so I put them off to side for the boss so he puts up with me buying coin out of the cash dwarer : D
Opps, got the $10 wrong. 1934a Green and 1934 no letter silver cert. Also forgot to mention the $2s, 1928g, 1953a, 1953b x2
I spent a Series 1969-C $5 just this afternoon after work, even worked in the U-scan machine. Didn't think it would. I got a Series 1928-A $100 and two Series 1934 $20s at my bank just last week, those joined the stash. Anything newer than the Series 1934s in circulated condition gets spent.
I wouldn't have thought it work in the machine either. Would love to see the looks on peoples faces when you hand them an old bill to pay for something. Do most of them even realize its different?
Depends on who is on the receiving end, younger will look at it and wonder if it is real, but I spent a Series 1950-E $100 about three years ago and handed it to an older cashier who didn't even give it a second look.
Opps, I wrote the date wrong in my post too, 1928 not 1929 Probably the 1928a $50 or the 1934 (no letter) $10 Silver. I love the line that mentions gold on the $50. I will try to get photos.
