I do not know your coin budget but I would suggest if you are looking to get a new John II, The market right now has good prices on Aspron Trachea ( Trikephala) for John II , they seem to be going for a little more than a great condition billion trachy.

The trade rate for these was 3 to one Hyperpyron. The Aspron Trachy was worth 16 billion trachea.

Here is my newest, I paid around 140 and I have another coming I paid 110 for.

The gold content was still high , his son ( Manuel I) debases the coins and the trade value changes to 4 to 1 for Trikephala to Hyperpyron. ( Btw coin dealers do not use the term Trikephala you will see them as Aspron Trachy.)

My coin is not perfect but still has its beauties.

Your John II Comnenus is fantastic. I have not bought it yet aspron trachy EL but it's on my wish list. Thanks for the info. My Byzantine collection is small, about 40 coins until now.
