I looked online for weights difference in coins and finding a lot of different answers. My 1956D penny weighs 3.3. Ive checked and rechecked other coins weighing 3.1. My scale is correct. Is 3.3 worth " writing home about" ? Or just another wheatie? Thanks
There are struck on rolled thin and struck on rolled thick planchets. That could be the issue. http://www.error-ref.com/rolled-thick-planchets/
The planchet was a wee bit thicker than normal. It happens and it's common enough not to bring a premium.
Tolerance for the cent allows a maximum weight of 3.24 grams. How many decimal places does you scale show? If it only shows one place, and the coin weighs 2.25 grams the scale will show 2.3 The maximum it can weigh and still show 3.3 would be 3.34 grams So the MOST it can be out of tolerance is .1 grams. Not a significant overage.
