I wouldn't do it, either. Not for myself, or anyone else. Looking back at my youth, one would never fathom I could develope such ethics. LOL
Daniel, That's pretty impressive, I didn't notice the missing frost on the stars and letters until you did your little project and placed the photos side by side.
Daniel, After seeing the photos that you photoshopped, I now see what you mean and admit that I was wrong! Just to make sure, I enlarged the Seller's pics of the coin and you can actually see the cropping (outlining) lines around Miss Liberty's bust where he or she roamed inside or outside of the lines. I must say that I am impressed with your editing of the pics of the coin you did! I could never be that steady in (cropping) outlining due to too many years of drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes and I don't even have a decent Photo program that I could use to do the same work. The Seller could not do the same to the Lettering, Stars and Date due to the amount of toning and hazing which would be a dead giveaway of photoshopping! I will now remember to look for the clues you pointed out when looking at coins on eBay or other internet sites. I am sorry for the disagreement! You know, the Seller could have just used the technique that I told you about to remove the haze and toning but he or she would have had to break it out of the slab.:hammer: Frank
No problem. BTW, there is an "undo last action" button you can press if you make a mistake when you're outlining something.
Look at the marks around the lips and under the nose, it is obviously the same coin, no doubt. Photo manipulation for sure tho, of what kind, I could not even guess. If you look at some of his feedback, I have purchased a cpl of these Morgans from him, NGC toners, always had a great transaction.:kewl:
Sorry to take so long in the reply OKC, been away from the computer for a while. I used Windows Picture it! 7.0 to do what I did to the photos above. It comes with Microsoft Works Suite 2003. I also have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9, which is basically the equivalent of Photoshop. To tell you the truth, it scares me too. If I can do it, I'm sure there are plenty of others who can do it also. Including scammers.
And they have been doing it for years. Which is why you should never base your buying descisions on pictures. KNOW your seller or don't buy - it's that simple.
I think we are overanalyzing this here. All i see if that they blacked out the background to make the coin more easily viewable. I would prob do the same thing. Just an easy click of the fill button
Being a Photoshop whiz myself, I can add that it doesn't even take that steady of a hand to do what DJ did, esp. if you have something like a Wacom pen tablet (http://www.wacom.com) and the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop. :rolling:
