Oh man! People just don't know. I had a friend at work and he was forever saying there was gold in the Sac dollars, I would correct him and two months later he would be saying the same thing over again. It just doesn't register with some people. I have a relative who is the same way. All you can do is share what you know but know ahead of time that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
You want to see some real brains ......It's a few minutes long, but hilarious
Yeah, some of the bank tellers call the Sacajawea's "Liberty" Dollars. Even the tellers don't always know the current coinage.
I guess I was sidetracked by another post that implied it was some sort of April Fool's joke (since it was posted on April 1)
I say us collectors just take em alll outa circulation and slowly sell em of to people who think they're gold Jk
You would be surprised at the number of people out there that think the Sac dollar is made of gold. Ask any dealer and he will tell you stories of people bringing in Sac and President dollars in wanting to sell them for their gold content. The Mint started a lot of that back in 2000 with thier advertisements refering to the Sac as the "golden dollar" People conveniently miss the "en" part and heard "gold dollar" As for refering to it as a Liberty dollar, I have heard a lot of none collectors do that. They also call Peace dollars Liberty Dollars, and I've heard of Liberty dimes, and Liberty quarters, and Liberty halves. Why? Because they don't have a clue who that person is on the coin (some dude) but they have that nice big word LIBERTY.
