1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar. Was taking pics to sell it and noticed the mint mark. Any opinions? Four different angle shots. A010 - 20150305_184119.jpg A011 - 20150305_184204.jpg A012 - 20150305_184229.jpg A013 - 20150305_184258.jpg Thanks.

This would be the CONECA listed 64D RPM-002 D/D North, FS-50-1964D-502 in Cherrypicker' Guide.

Thanks for the info. So I guess it's a keeper. I'll have to check and see if NGC will list it on a slab. It won't grade that high...these Kennedys from mint sets are pretty banged up.

The 1964-D Kennedy half dollar RPM – 002 is listed in the Cherrypickers’ Guide as the FS – 502. Not sure about having it graded at NGC but at PCGS it would only be cost effective if it graded MS63 or above. The grading and attribution fees would cost more then the value of the variety entombed for anything less then a MS63.

It is still a nice looking RPM!

PCGS' values for the different grades they have assigned are listed in the "screen shot" below:

A014 - 20150306_112317.jpg A015 - 20150306_112333.jpg Here are the pics of the whole coin. I still might send it in eventually just to get it in a slab, but unfortunately the obverse on Kennedy's face has some nasty bag marks from other coins as well as the tip of his nose. The reverse is okay. I imagine it would only get a 63, 64 if I was really lucky. Still, even at 63 it's worth more than 50 cents!! I have another Kennedy that I got at an auction in an uncirculated roll that has a nice little clip on the rim of the coin. I'll have to really check the rest of my Kennedys I pulled out of mint sets to see if there are anymore FS-502s.

Is it just me, or something in the photo, but does anyone see a THIRD mintmark south and slightly east of the main two? I see it in the same place in the first, third, and fourth images. About a third of the mintmark seems to be faintly showing.

Conder, here are a couple more closeups of the mint mark taken with my Dino-Lite as close as I can get it and then enlarged. I circled the spot I think you are talking about on one of the pics. Maybe this will help what you think you are seeing. In hand it's hard to see unless you rotate the coin just the right way and then you can see that little spot that I circled.

Here is a photo of the 64D RPM-002 in my collection. Condor 101 is correct there does appear to be something south east of the primary mintmarks. I think maybe some gouges...what are others thinking?

Here are a few more that show pretty much what is below the mint mark. It's hard to get it on camera without rotating it, tilting it but under a loop you can see the line under the mint mark.

Here is the clipped one I found in the roll of UNCs.

Looks far to uneven to be a mint mark.

That 68-D looks remarkable similar to this one:

Kennedy 1968-D NNC Collection Coin World Cover-01.jpg

what with the die polish and all.

I'd hang onto it until a detailed photo of the above coin becomes available.

    Keemao – Don’t sell your 64-D RPM-002 short, I’ve seen worst in a MS64 holder from PCGS.

Just be careful checking your Kennedy half dollars over, if you spend too much time with them they can become addictive and you wouldn’t want to be know as a “Kennedy Junky” ( I think this is the reason that most Kennedy collectors are “closet collectors” of the series, they don’t want their friends and associates to really know that they collect modern coins let alone Kennedy half dollars).

Not to fear....I will not become addicted to Kennedys. I do have some stashed but it's only because of the silver, not because I collect them. I may just sent it in to be graded and slabbed. I have some other errors I need to have graded.

Nice RPM! That mark under the primary D/D is interesting. I saw this in the OP's photo when processed for detail:
