Thanks for the link. While it is a great coin obviously, do you agree with the grade? I mean, all of those marks on her mouth and cheek and its a 67+? Time was you could never get a 65 with marks like that in the prime focal areas.

Have to admit that until you asked I hadn't even looked at the coin. I would agree that years ago (1980's) you probably wouldn't have gotten better than a 65 but today yes I think that would make a current 67, 67+ maybe. Those three marks on the cheek are not good but they do seem to be the only ones there.

Yeah, its a great coin overall. I just think visually unappealing for the grade. If I want to pay for a 67+, I want a great looking coin with maybe a couple marks in the fields, not a bunch of marks right where everyone first looks.

Great post though Conder, thanks. I do see good coins on Ebay. but almost always at a BIN, not an auction. I simply do not blame them. I don't think I would take the risk of listing my flowing hair dollar there. If I wanted to sell, I would be much more comfortable selling it on Heritage or similar. I think Ebay will always be like it is, since its a constant auction. Big auctions are big because they draw the attention of a lot of major buyers at one time, therefor getting a lot of great consignments, which in turn attracts even more bidders. A lot of people with money do not want to have to spend hours going through a lot of crud on Ebay to find one coin they might like, when if they wait a couple of months they can attend an auction with maybe 10 coins they like, all in a nice format, with a reputable firm standing behind the coins.

P.S. I still buy on Ebay, but I am a sucker for a bargain. :)

Aw, come on, you aren't playing fair. :) A starting price of $11,235 and one bidder, and that is supposed to be an auction?

When I say an auction, maybe start the coin of at a quarter of book, and have it go up from there. I can show you 500 listing in ancients that are "auctions" the the starting bid is at least as high as the retail proce being asked for at places like Vcoins or major coin houses.

Plus it is a problem coin, an NNC "MS60" that would never get a number from the other main grading services, they may not even give a BU "details grade". It looks dipped out and like something was done to make it bright. I sold a type I recently for a fifth of that price that was far less of a problem piece. You gotta wonder who paid that kind of money when there are many more and better coins available for a fraction.

I would say 65+ max. The marks are in a highly grade sensitive area, not like they are in the hair or rim nicks. Someone is going to have trouble getting their money out of that down the line IMO.
