Hmmm... I had never heard these terms before now... dark side, light side, grey side, far side... my collection includes all four. I suppose, being Canadian, that my collection of US coins would represent my grey side. My darkside, however definitely outweighs all the other "sides". My unattainable goal is to acquire a coin of every denomination of every year and every type from every country in the world. lol.... ok... I'll never get there... but that's part of the fun. I'll never complete my collection, and I'll always be building it. So it'll be fun to see how far I can get before I die. Heh. What attracts me to the "darkside" is the pure numbers and variety of coins out there. (Plus the fact that they sell them inexpensively and sometimes even by the pound. ) As for the far side... I got into exonumia as well because often when I buy world coins in bulk there are different arcade/slot machine and transit-type tokens mixed in. Some of them are actually pretty neat.

But I have to wonder... why "darkside"? Was that term coined (excuse the pun ) by a numismatic purist who shuns upon those who collect world coins? Are we darksiders the black sheep of the coinworld?

(Umm... ok... just noticed something I didn't see before... a better explanation for the darkside term. I kinda like it. )

While were quoting Star Wars... Quoth Annakin Skywalker after cutting off the hands of Count Duku... "I can't kill him... it's not the Jedi way... hes unarmed!" *snigger*
