What's my half-dollar collection worth?

    Howdy,
Got some server bills to pay, and I'm getting my half-dollar collection together to sell off to raise funds. I was wondering if anyone would like to take a guess at what I'm going to be offered for it when I show it to dealers. If anyone guesses correctly what I end up selling it for, I'll send you the two empty Whitman albums that are left over.

    Here's what I have

    Peter,

I've been looking at the "Support CoinTalk, PayPal Donate" button at the lower left corner of the main page.

I need to ask the obvious. This is to collect money to help finance Coin Talk ? I want to verify before I contribute that this isn't a phishing scam that somebody is overlaying onto the main web page.

    Thanks !

    Hey Peter...

One suggest...if you can wait for the money a while try to find an auction in your area that would let you sell some things too...I have see Half dollars go for $7 each where they should have gone for $2.50-$3.00.

I'm not too good at getting all of these prices but I'll try to see what I come up with.

    Hi,
I really didn't mean to make this look like a solicitation for donations. Just curious what everyone thought I'd get offered for this lot. Yes, the button is real, a few people have used it and I greatly appreciate it.

    Peter,

I realize you weren’t soliciting donations. It’s just that there are quite a lot of us here who are benefiting from your generosity, and I felt it wasn’t fair for you to carry the whole load (selling off parts of your collection  ).

Essentially, I just wanted to bring the PayPal feature to everyone’s attention. I don’t know how long it’s been there, but I only noticed it for the first time a week ago.

Thanks very much. It's not the first time, I sold a huge box of stuff to Steve (national dealer) last fall, which funded Coin Talk for the last nine months or so. I don't want to get too obnoxious with the advertising.

I looked at what I think you will get for the RAW coins...most of this is taken from what my dealer pays for this type of coin...the rest are taken from price guides with money taken off since dealers give less than list.

I'm guessing for the raw coins $2,713.25....now please understand that I'm not sure and more than likely I'm wrong...I'll try to get the slabbed coins prices up today...they will be from completed auctions.

I know nothing of the subject, but I'd say 5,500 for all of the coins.(?)

I went to an online auction co and looked at what the slabs have been selling for this year...then I took away a dollar or two to be near what a dealer will give...for the slabs I would guess around $1,629.00...if you can make them think that the Kennedys are PF70DCAMEO then you have a few thousand!!!..

So the Raw and Slabbed comes to $4,342.25.

I'm going to take "the under" on this one and go with $4250.

Good luck with your sale Peter!

Just in case anyone didn't know... this thread is five years old. I did indeed end up selling off all of my half-dollar collection near the end of 2005. And, since I sold it all to a dealer, the price wasn't all that great, but it did fund CoinTalk's server expenses for quite a few months after that.
