It appears to be a damaged coin. Worth only 25 cents. No mint mark on a 1966 means the Philadelphia mint.
I can't say what caused the damage, but I can definitely say it did not happen at the mint.

Perhaps someone went around it with a can opener.

Yes, PLUS there were no mint marks on any coins during 1965, 1966 and 1967. MM returned in 1968, even with controversy. Lol

That is really strange tho. I mean it doesn't look like they drilled the holes.I wonder what they used?

    It wasn't drilled.
It was hammered using some punch. Or as mentioned some can opener like Device bevause of their consistency in shape and distance between each of them Around the rim.
    Look closely at the holes.
    They are triangular.
They have displaced/ pushed up metal around the indentations.

Just as a quick test, I grabbed a hand can opener and I surprisingly got similar marks, of course in a consistent distance for the most part, as the above example.

Of course mine has a cutter on it, which put a nice gash on it too, but by readjusting I was able to just get the triangular marks.

by the way, as you can see, I had it just cut across the coin, not around the rim.

None of the US coins in 1965 1966 and 1967 had mint marks, although they
were produced at all 3 mints.

From 1965-1967 none of the mints used mint marks. So we don't know where this was struck.

For some reason, it isn't showing that the top line is a quote from TheFinn.

    Thanks Michael K and TheFinn.

I actually did not know that. I knew there were no mint marks those years, but I thought that meant that all production was from Philly.

They thought that the reason there was a coin shortage was because of collectors, so they tried removing mint marks. The real reasons were the removal of silver, and all of the coin operated machines like payphones, coke machines and cigarette machines that we're emptied once a week.

I believe the Mark is from the rolling machine from the bank. When I get penny rolls the end coins sometimes have this same Mark on them. I really sucks when it's a wheat cent on the end.

I'm not trying to be rude, but the damage on the OPs coin cannot be from the rolling machine. It is PMD

Darn, I had a chance to reread my post and I thought @JgCoinHunter74 was referring to the rolling machine to make “blanks”. I jumped on it because I didn’t want new collectors to think that this was caused in the strip rolling process. I now see now he said “banks”. While it still couldn’t be caused by a coin rolling machine, I apologize for jumping on your comment in what could be considered a harsh tone.:banghead:
