I would expect more luster, less marks on the prime focal areas (Liberty's face/chin) and maybe some decent toning on a 65. Eye-appeal is key on gem BU coins. So I wouldn't have bought it. Rev seems to be nice though...

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Looking at the Heritage auction prices realized - 1896 graded 65 in blast white are selling for around $140-$160. Both of the ones you posted have neutral eye appeal, although I'm not a fan of the hazy/brown/spottiness on them. $160 is thus full retail for those pieces; if I were buying them I'd look more at the $150 range. Not a terrible deal, but not a great deal either - you paid a fair price for a fair coin.

And, it really doesn't matter what a price guide says. I could write a price guide tomorrow that says these coins are worth $400 - that doesn't make it true. The real price guide for any coin is what someone is willing to pay, and the best way to judge that is to see what they *have* paid.

From the look of this coin on a NGC holder. I don't agree with the grade. Some scratches on the Obverse and it isn't a pretty coin and also a common coin, I wouldn't buy it. I've seen better looking Morgan's before in MS 65. But like other said How happy are you with the coin.
