Would you rather have, this champion bred racing Pigeon, named Armando, that recently sold for $1,420,000.00, photo courtesy of Fox News. Or this gem mint state 1703 Vigo Bay gold 5 Guineas, that auctioned off for $1,080,000, on January 13th of this year, photo courtesy of Baldwin's of St. James ?
Anyone with any bit of commonsense.... Queen Anne 5 Guineas Plus, would be a nice addition to my collection....
Hey, the racing pigeon might return a better rate of interest! If not... there's always the fertilizer option...
... Imagine how many normal pigeons I could buy with Armando... I'd still take the 5 Guineas, let's be honest.
Armando. Then I'd sell him cheap for $1,300,000 and buy the 5 Guineas coin, and pay off my mortgage with the change.
Well, on one hand, the pigeon ain't going to live forever and the coins will, but then you can't eat the coins if times get hard. LOL
Yeah, but you could sell one of your coins and have ample $ to eat the finest food. Also, it can be said that of all the things you love, a gold coin will never loose its beauty and appeal, to prove my point here is my 2300 year old.... AV Stater ND Salamis Mint struck 316BC King Nikokreon of Cyprus/ Ptolomaic satrap under Ptolemy I 330-10BC
Tough one. If the pigeon couldn't be killed, or die there might be a consideration of it. Then again, one is life and one is a shiny something or other.
Gotta go with Anne, though i must say, ol' Armando is kinda cute. When I went to the Charlotte Mint museum, I remember seeing a Queen Anne 5-guinea piece there, which impressed me more than all the Charlotte gold coins on display. If I remember correctly, their 5-guinea was circulated, though, not MS like that monster in the OP. And not a VIGO.
Got a wonderful idea. If I were King Midas, I could touch Armando, and he-she-it would turn into GOLD !!!
