I know what you mean. Even in hand, I often have trouble telling if there is wear on the reverse or not. Thats why I posted this coin. And there seem to be alot of differing opinions. I personally am thinking 63+, but I'm no expert. Walkers are what I'm collecting, so I've gotten the grading pretty much down- EXCEPT for telling AU-58 (maybe even 55) from an UNC coin. This thread has helped me a little, but its not completely clear to me yet...
Even if you do know how to grade, that is part of the problem trying to evaluate/grade coins based on images, which are almost always inaccurate in one or more ways.
It is amazing how hard it can be to tell the difference between a high grade AU and a mid grade MS. ( how exactly do you tell the difference between sliding contact from a bag and in a pocket). And remembering the scale does'nt really go AU 58 to ms 60. More like AU 53 to MS 60, AU 55 to MS 63, and AU58 to ms 64 or 65.
I'll say this is a slider, looks to be atleast AU-58, if not then I'll say MS-63ish IMHO. Very nice coin none the less! :thumb: Phoenix
craig, if you look farther down page one of this thread you can see another picture of the coin that I posted a link too. The details on that photo aren't as sharp, but it actually shows the good luster. I'm still working on my coin photography skills, and I'm still not able to get a photo that shows both the sharp details ANd the luster. Thus the multiple pics of the same coin. Anway, I'm going to get a couple more walkers posted ASAP.
Are using the macro (flowered symbol) function on the camera? I've got to play with my camera's macro function to figure out how to get better pics. I'm not ready to invest in a macro lens attachment which excels in such images.
