They can't make everything perfectly safe for all buyers and sellers. If you want that, look into buying your own insurance policy.

Of course not. They've made things much safer for buyers than for sellers; I've responded rationally, by becoming a heavier buyer, and no longer selling.

But if things get too bad for sellers, it's not going to be a good place to buy, either. So even if I'm only a buyer, I'm still interested in rebalancing the risk that sellers currently experience.

EBay got worse when they prompt buyers to pay import charges up front! This is especially frustrating when you bought gold coins, which are import tax EXEMPT! Has anyone here had a conversation with EBay regarding this? As I'm on the other side of the Atlantic I don't want to spend lots of $$$ on making an expensive call to the customer support if it isn't worth it. Thanks for your input

How risky is it really? I've had over 2200 transactions as a seller and never been the victim of fraud and never had a package lost. If I do get ripped off on a couple $200 transactions, it's not going to turn me off ebay.

If you're talking about $1600 items, maybe ebay is not the right venue for some individuals to be selling at that level.

Allowing sellers to leave negative feedback on buyers would have zero effect on fraud. Criminals don't care what kind of feedback you leave them; they'll just sign up for a new acct.

What can I say? I'm glad your luck has been good; mine was, too, mostly.

Yes, I'm in a position where I'd rather not take a $1600 hit. I don't have a plan that would net me enough profit to absorb losses like that even once or twice a year. That's one reason I'm still mostly a day-job type.

Yes, criminals will sign up for new accounts, especially at the levels I was discussing -- it's probably worth the trouble to spin up a new account if you can reliably get one or two $1600 scores off it before it's shut down. But there's a large class of abusive buyers -- the folks who swap coins out of folders, or swap clad for silver in lots, or try to use feedback extortion on sellers -- who would be discouraged if sellers could once again leave negative feedback on buyers.

You have pretty much voiced all of my concerns. It is very misleading to buyers concerning shipping time and expected arrival. Any postal clerk will tell you "approximate", not definitive arrival time. No one has control over the inclement weather, a foot delivery, vehicles getting stuck, or poor postal service. And thank you all, for the positive suggestions so far. Now if only there were a way to forward this string directly to the Ebay CEO and not some unknowing lackey, maybe we might see some positive changes.

1 more thing..I HATE when listing, ebay defaults to the checked box to HAVE ITEM SENT TO GLOBAL SHIPPING CENTER In postage area...I will NOT sell overseas anymore, after all the "not as described" hassles many sellers went through, and lost their coins, and paypal froze their accounts..
