The simple and obvious reality is that if he continues down this path, particularly if with more collectible level coins, sooner or later and right or wrong, he'll pay the price for it. Giving a neg or even just a neutral now will be a hell of a lot more than the little slap it is for many sellers, but will destroy his ability to sell and/or at the very least achieve fair prices.
