With the high price of silver nowadays, I see some very pretty, nice AU mercuries for barely over melt. If you are not concerned about silver prices, I think its a great time to buy high grade examples pretty cheap. Unless you are going for high grade specimens, there really are only 3 keys to mercuries that are expensive, unfortunately one is quite expensive.

By barely over melt, do you mean by a dollar or two? I've seen those examples as well, and also thought it was reasonable pricing, but then thought, "That's 50 or 100% over melt!" No biggie for one or two... ;)

I'd say if you're buying on ebay, one or two at a time, I'd go for a larger denomination to make up for the relative shipping costs.

If you're buying in bulk, then my point is nullified.

I could have bought a AU roll for 28x face or less last weekend. I am sure they would have all been WWII era but they sure were pretty. :)

I woulda bought those in a heartbeat, as I'm sure would our Irish friend. BU Roosie rolls are going for 25x around here, and they're a mere investment, versus a piece 'o' history. Methinks location will be the challenge for the OP.
