What was the longest period you've ever waited to buy the coin you want?

A method I have used a couple of times this year: paying in installments.. some dealers are fine with it and will work with you.
I don't usually spend more that $100 on a coin - but when I do I usually work out a payment schedule (even if its just 2 payments).. makes it a little easier and keeps the purchase outside of the wife's radar! :)

This is not the coin but its replacement. A local dealer bought a tetradrachm of Trajan something like this one and though I really wanted the coin I waited for over four years before I offered to purchase it. Took me 18 years to find an affordable Geta as caesar sestertius- and then there it was $500 - on eBay buy it now. Condition was fine but if it was a higher grade it would cost much more and someone else would own it.

I wrote an article on it in one of my threads or conversations (not sure of the difference) and posted a photograph - I am not sure how to reference a link to it using my IPHONE which I’m on.

I got my first Tiberius denarius - the ubiquitous Pontif. Maxim type -
in 1981. Ever since, I have wanted the other rare early type celebrating
his military success. I have finally acquired a decent affordable example

    Here it is

I’ve been waiting on some Chinese coins for over 5 years because there are just so few legally available. There’s one type where I am aware of only 2 available outside of China

A local coin shop purchased a large old collection of world coins, which included a quantity of tough Chinese coins about 2 years ago. I assisted in attributing the several unidentified coins and was rewarded with first dibs on primarily Chinese and Arabic coins. Since then, the scarcer Chinese coins have been sparse there and at other usual sources.
