I am a new coin investor and my local coin deal told me he uses the greysheet, So I have come to the conclusion that I need to subscribe to the greysheet but, their are so many versions of it it's confusing. I want the exact version I need for specific coin dates and coin grades. I have different gold coins and they are not the most common dates that's why I need to know the bid and ask price for specific years, thanks for the help also I don't want a full year subscription just something for about a month that still tells me the specific years what's the cheapest option?
The problem you have is that the pricing for specific dates usually comes in the supplements. You might try to find someone who has some older copies of the supplements who might be willing to sell or give them to you. Have you checked the CDN website to see if you can get samples of the supplements? Chris
maybe some forumites will pipe in with opinions on investing in coins. Personally I have done ok but mostly by flipping mint products- it is tough to "invest" in coins and make money with it (not impossible but tough). Also Heritage auction has some ok pricing info but you have to sign up (it is free) http://coins.ha.com/ref/price-guide.zx
You don't need a full year's subscription, but you do need about 6 different issues to cover all coins. And you don't need to buy new issues. You can buy back issues right on their web site for about $3 each. So, for about $20 you can buy everything you need. But, if you only want specific coins, then look through these links and find the specific issue or issues you want. http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/GreyCovered.asp http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/MonthlyCovered.asp http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/Q1Covered.asp http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/Q2Covered.asp http://www.greysheet.com/cdn/Q3Covered.asp Now, once you do that, you have to realize that those prices are only good for so long. Right now the coin market in general is dropping, has been dropping for the past 4 years. And it seems to be looking for a new low. I honestly expect it to test the lows of 2007 (it's getting close right now), and it could go well beyond that. So be aware.
As doug said you don't need the whole subscription. once you know which of the suppliments/monthly, or quarterly you need you can buy and download the latest issue for just a few dollars. Unless you are buying and selling a wide variety of coins on a daily basis you really don't need a subscription. Just get the one you need from time to time.
