I found this detail on this 1967 lincoln penny but I can't figure out what kind or type of die is?,... Chip Die between columns?, but the chip is before the strike,... some kind of MD,... Thank you all in advance.
It might be a die clash, but it would help to have an overlay of the obverse. Maybe @Rick Stachowski could help. Chris
JC, remember that the die is the negative of the coin, so that depression you see behind the columns was actually on the surface of the die, the columns were engraved into the die over that region, so they appear full, as they were lower into the die than the back of the area. You can see above the flat roof line, a small triangle which was formed by whatever messed the die up in both places, Jim
