How do you find these sales and know about them? I'd love to attend one.

Check the classifieds in your local paper or google your area and "estate sale". I've only been to one and it was about ten years ago 2 blocks away from me. I just saw the sign for it going down the street and went inside the house, some old lady had died and some professional liquidators were inside selling its contents.

Question: A few weeks ago on www.coinflation.com the melt value of a War nickel was around $1.71. If it were still at that price and I wanted to sell, would I not be offered something near that by a dealer, say within 10% of melt value? What's this I'm reading on this thread that you can buy them for just a dollar???

The war nicks usually do not get close to their silver value since they are more trouble for the refiner to deal with.

Wether that has to do with the metals used in the war nicks being different than the metals used in regular .900 fine coinage or some other reason I do not know, but I would not expect to sell them to a dealer for more than a half buck at most.
