You can get a 2006-W American Silver Eagle for $60 to $80 or if you're really lucky maybe you can pick up a Morgan Silver Dollar CC for under $100. The Morgan won't be in a high grade but IMO all CC's look great!

What to do with a hundred bucks? Send it to me. I'll figure something out.:)

You could get a real nice Peace Dollar for that much.

Have you considered getting one of the new $100 bills coming out and have PNG grade it? Tell the Bank Cashier it's for a money envelope and you would like to get one with an interesting serial number.

I like that $100 bill idea, maybe try to find one thats a star note, they probably wont allow me to go through that many bills though till I find one. But we shall see. Keep the ideaas coming.

Spend $20 of it on a numismatic reference book, read the book, and that should give you ideas what to do with the other $80.

This is something that I have considered. I have a friend that partiicipates in the Monthly Acquistion Program (MAP). He is very satisfied, but a little overwelmed with the large variety he receives.

Great suggestion Imo :). I was intruiged when I read about it, since it lowers your commission, especially on small amounts, but I never tried it. I also like that he only charges commission one way if you sell back. What kinds of coins does your friend receive? -- I think variety might be interesting.

    Hey Joey,

This is a really good question. If I only had $100.00 to invest and I did not know if I would ever have more in the near future I think I would gamble with the full $100.00 by way of buying some "truly un-searched" wheat pennies. You can buy 10 pound bags for under 100.00 right now. If you get lucky you may find 1 or 2 valuable coins to recoup your initial investment and then you can sell the rest for whatever the market will bare. It may be a slow way of building up capital to re-invest but as long as you keep profiting that is good.
On the other hand , if you know you will have $100.00 to invest every month or on a regular ongoing basis then some of the suggestions that were made earlier in this thread sound pretty darned tempting ( like that money changer deal ). If it were me it would not work out too well because I have no real interest in acquiring US coins other than to re-sell for a profit , so that I can buy the South American coins that I want to build my collection on. So knowing what interests you personally is ultimately what should determine what course to follow in order to obtain it , sort of like plotting a course to a destination.

Might I suggest a Capped Bust Half dollar. You can find common date ones in VF condition for about $100 or a little over. They are nice coins and are over 180 years old.

eBay is the one I was referring to , but never pay the "buy it now" price. Only do the auction price for as much under similar "buy it now" prices as possible. You will probably not win a few auctions but NEVER go over the TOTAL price you have set for yourself & that should include the cost of shipping. Also as the folks here on CT have mentioned many times , read as much feedback about the seller as you can bare, especially from buyers who bought lots or bags of coins similar to what you are considering. Some sellers load up their bags with wheats from the 40's and 50's and a bunch of useless steel cents or teens and twenties so worn out you couldn't give them away.

Remember my initial term for this was "gambling" and it really is , since you never know if you will profit or lose from anything contained in those "un-search bags of wheat" and the odds are against you.

I respectfully disagree with the "unsearched" bags of wheat cents idea.

I believe I can safely say that 99+% of the bags on eBay that say unsearched have absolutely been searched. This is largely a scam. If you can get them for the same price as common 1940s-1950s wheats, then nothing lost, but if you pay any kind of premium for them, you're kissing your money goodbye.

I bet the bank won't let "you" go through any of them.
I strap of crisp new $100 bills is worth $10,000.

There's someone selling put-together rolls on ebay, every one has a key/semi-key lincoln or an IHC on the ends, the end in all the 2nd pics that I looked at is obviously rerolled closed.

He's selling these as (drum roll please!) Unsearched Rolls!

The best use for the $100 is to buy coin books, not coins. If you walk into a coin shop with $100 and ask the dealer what to buy, you are almost certainly going to be disappointed a couple of years from now when you learn more. Learn first, then buy.
