Maybe dip residue from being improperly rinsed?

 

How long have you owned the coin? I've had more than one dollar turn in the holder. It's probably dip residue that wasn't completely eliminated / neutralized.

Looks like there's carbon spots, in that whole area .

 

When a typical main sequence star does go red giant and blows off its outer layers, and the core becomes a white dwarf, the main element thrown out into space IS carbon, after all.

 

This seems to be the most likely.

 

Carbon spots are like rust on metal, there's noway to stop it from spreading ..

You are right!

 

Since 2011. The star was hinky from the get go but the rim and crud around the star is post 2011.

 

Is that like them having their own walk fo fame?

 

I'd get rid of it...
