My passion changes every few years. I like Bust half dollars right now.

I am sure I will go back to Liberty head gold dollars if resources permit me to start putting together a set again.

I would love to collect Bust quarters but dear god, the prices.

I get a silver proof set from the U.S. Mint every year. Usually a bad investment but I love silver coins and modern mintage techniques are so good the coins always look amazing.

In the 80's through the early 90's I collected Canadian commemorative silver dollars for the same reason but lost interest trying to keep up with the multitude of RCM offerings.

Actually, now that I think of it, my wife buys me an ASE from APMEX each year for Christmas.

For me it’s capped bust quarters. It can take a while between purchases, though, because not many coins fit my target (low enough grade to be affordable, not overpriced, reasonably nice eye appeal, and not cleaned or damaged).

It feels like >99% of capped bust quarters do not fit those criteria, but at least I don’t have to worry about exceeding my budget that way.

Modern interests are The Queen's Beasts. Early interests are US Commemorative coins 1892 - 1954. Both for many religious reasons but mostly because I enjoy series sets that have complete design changes with each new addition.

Do you buy them directly from the mint, or wait a couple of years until the sticker price drops? I have found that for most of them, you can pick them up for a lot less after the newness has worn off.

I would call them a year type set. Lots of folks collect this way.
