Had a chance to buy a few fresh 1981 Proof Sets this week, and had a very decent pull of Type 2 coins (4 Dollars, 4 Halves, 5 Quarters, 1 Dime, 6 Nickels, and 3 Cents) - but I ended up with a few coins that look like a completely different type of MM than the Type 1 and Type 2's. (At least, they look different to me today.) Here are images of 3 different Roosevelt Dimes and 1 Washington Quarter. Dime 1 In my opinion, this MM has what appears to be the desirable flat top and one bulbous end, but the other end isn't quite the same as other Type 2 MM I've seen. It's also more rounded (in terms of character thickness, I suppose) and less flat than other T2. Dime 2 Same as Dime 1. Look pretty good, but just a bit off for some reason. Dime 3 Same as the first two. Quarter 1 A lot further down the scale from T2 to T1, in my opinion, but just kind of looks enough of both sides to be some kind of hybrid. Maybe I'm overthinking this? So, what are your thoughts on these? I would characterize my leanings as "Dimes, mostly T2" and "Quarter, probably T1."
