I found this roll hunting and haven't seen anything like it before. Am not sure how to classify it as an error. Thank you.
I would put this coin in the following category: "Interesting but not worth much." That way your heirs won't think you saved it because it was valuable. ~ Chris
Yes, that "stuff" around the date and MM is both strange to look at and interesting to consider. Oddities box for sure.
Thanks allot guys, and if you don't mind me posting these oddities as well, maybe someone can finally tell me what they are. I don't imagine they are of any value, but I like the looks of them and have been setting them aside for quite some time now. Photos are in the following post.
It looks like you have various die chips in various places on the obverse/reverse of each coin. As you can tell, these types of die chips are quite common and, as such, carry little or no premium value. In general, anytime you see a number or letter filled in with metal, chances are, it's a die chip.
How interesting. I didn't know that a die chip would cause all of the raised area of a coin to fill out. The type is fat, the Lincolns have put on weight, and the memorials are also fuller. I guess they don't have to be valuable for me to like the look and to keep collecting them .
The 1959-D cent that begins this thread suffers from staining and possible surface contamination. It's not an error.
All suffer from extensive wear. The wearing has smushed everything making the details fat/thick-looking. Not errors...imho...Spark
