IF I were writing on my own 2x2, I'd put >5% or ~5% splitting hairs between 3/4/5% is tough. Is it off-center, or just a misaligned die? What does the other side look like?
The easiest way to calculate the percentage would be to mark a piece of paper representing the gap from the outer edge to the inside of the rim at its widest point. (In the case of this coin, it would be about 8 o'clock.) Then continue making more hash marks (l) of the same width on the paper until you have spanned the remainder of the coin. Count the number of hash marks from the inner edge of the rim across the coin to the outer edge of the opposite rim. Divide this total into one (1) and you have the percentage. Chris
This dime is a Misaligned Die not an Off Center. It was struck by an inverted die setup. This means the Reverse Die is used as the hammer die. Is it a D mintmark?
Yeah--the has to be the explanation, the reverse was the hammer--how common is that? Honestly, that's far more interesting than whatever % off-center. I think this is a keeper! Update: I found an article here by Mike Diamond.
Mike Diamond is how I found out about the inverted die setup! That is why I ask about the mintmark. Denver started using this process in 1992. Yes keeper indeed.
When I bring Soren's photo into software and enlarge it...I think I can make out a 1994-P, but maybe he can help us out...
