My mother left me several $1-$2-$5 silver certificates. Most are green label and a couple red label most start and end with A and some have a * . I have no idea what to look for and what makes them worth more than face value. An antique store has a stack of $2 ones but it s asking $3. Again I don't know how to tell the value. I collect coins but never paper. Thanks.
@Richard Kennedy It's best to post pictures of the currency and ask questions! I'm sure someone on here will be willing to help! You also might look on eBay sold listings to get an idea what they have sold for in the past! Just remember there are some bidiots on there who pay way too much sometimes! If you decide to post pictures, I suggest you post one per thread to eliminate any confusion!
Silver certificates are blue seals. Post some photos and we can go through them 1 by 1. The red seals are US Notes. And the green seals are Federal Reserve notes. But dates and condition are important. The star notes are replacement notes, fewer of those are printed and some could have value.
Rich, I asked how to track down the value of hundreds of bills I have and the folks here gave some good links. I'll re-post them here unless you beat me to it. Assuming most or all of what you have are commons, they aren't worth much as I learned. You might have some that are woth $10-$15 assuming they are in a condition that equates to PMG 65 or above. If you have star notes, that helps. Low serial numbers, too.
Here you go, Rich: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/any-good-sites-for-finding-the-value-of-bills.391569/ Good links within, not too far down.
Thanks to all. This pretty much answers my question. The only real value is they were collected by my mother .
