What kind of damage causes this?

    I figure this is just a damaged coin, I was just curious what causes it to look like this? Corrosion? Just trying to better understand what causes damage to coins.

    Definitely Damaged.ED or Environmental damage . Looks like road damage possibly ? :eek:

    It's a copper plated zinc planchet. It could of been damaged when it was dropped onto a road and cars ran over it causing the copper plating to come off exposing the inner zinc.

    It looks to me like someone was messing around with silver/gold testing acid and then scraped it against the pavement or dropped it on the street to be run over.

    I've done it myself to coins that have no numismatic value.

    Yep. Looks like it may have spent some time in a parking lot.

    First run over by a 2003 Kia Sorento. I nearly wrecked trying to avoid it.;)
