Eventually,I will be getting a digital camera so I can take photos of coins from my collection. Aidan.
I'm considering picking these up, even considering replacing my DSLR with it, if it can do the job, but may I ask why (if it has interchangable lenses) it seems to require a lens adapter and the wide & telephoto lenses seem to snap onto the front of the... errr... lens (unless I am mistaken?) I think I might go look at one at a B&M as there's something confusing about the whole lens adapter thing (and yes, I know about the Lensmate one). Far as I can tell, the S3IS has a small lens, like most point & shoots, with a removeable trim ring. You need an adapter (something that should be included far as I can tell) which goes over the existing lens where the trim ring was. This adapter is basically a right-sized tube allowing one to screw on a 58mm filter and (and this is the part that confuses me) those little lenses (like the TC-DC58B or the WC-DC58A).
I have a Canon Digital Rebel - the first version - that I use for everything but is primarily for family photos. I have only done a couple of coin photos but with the help of folks here, I've now moved up from "completely incompetent" to "solidly mediocre"...
Canon A1, AE-1, AE-1program, A few Ricohs, several Pentexes, Sony Mavica MVD-7 and -88, Mamiya's, Fuji S7000 and S9000, DXG, Canon S-410, etc., etc., etc. Just way to many. Basically use the Fuji S7000. Oh one more thing is I seldom ever take photos of coins.
I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2. I'm still learning how to take acceptable pictures of coins. Once I get my den set up in our new house I'm devoting one corner of my room to nothing but coin photography. Here's a pic of the camera I have. I couldn't take a pic of my own camera being that I only have one.
