I have found quite a few mexican 1 nuevo peso coins from the early 1990s in change, they&#039;re comprable in size to nickels, even though they are bi-metal, and quite easy to tell apart, you still see them occasionally. As well as several early 1990&#039;s 10 centavos, which are similar in size to dimes. I&#039;ve never found any of the red 20 centavos here, or anything older than the early 1990s in change here in Arizona. I think the exchange rate for nuevo pesos would make 1 nuevo peso worth around .09cents USD. So getting a 1 nuevo peso in change, as a nickel, results in a .04 cent profit.</p><p>&nbsp;The last time I got a large ammount of change when I was actually in Mexico was probably 1993, and I got loads and loads of the earlier $100, $500 and $1000 peso coins from the 1980s, from before they switched over to nuevo pesos. In 1993 they were using nuevo pesos, but the older high-denomination pesos were still to be found everywhere in circulation. I forget how many old pesos equaled one nuevo peso, but it was quite a few. The exchange rate was quite different than it is now before the nuevo peso, it took huge ammounts of pesos to equal a US dollar, so they had coins with very large denominations, big thick heavy copper-nickel coins. At the coin shop I frequent they have a 25cent bin, and it&#039;s bursting with the mexican 1940s copper large 20 centavos, and the high denomination 1980s coinage.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
