i never saw any use in having a collecting focus in coins as you will miss too much just focused on one type for me it's anything that gets my notice
I guess I have the opposite approach Silverpop, but then everyone has to do what they feel most comfortable with. In my case I use the same rule I had to use when I was younger and hunting Pheasant and partridge. When a flock of partridge jumped up from under your feet it would look like the sky was full of birds. Three spent shells later the flock, intact, would be setting down again a mile away. My only chance was to focus on a single bird and pretend he was the only bird in the sky. I do the same thing with coins. I have one type of coin I collect; Seated. I have collected other series of coins over the years and have also built type sets, but I enjoy myself the most when I stick to a narrow focus. James
People criticize me for having no direction. Others call me "a walking encyclopedia." Either way, it's just my way of having fun. I collect U.S. coins, type coins and other series that interest me. British coins, mostly by king or queen Imperial Roman coins by emperor. 19th century presidential campaign tokens 19th century merchant tokens that grab my interest. Most recently I have purchased examples of the tokens that Dr. Louis Feuchwanger put into circulation during the Hard Times period, and his proposals during the Civil War.
Everything as the initial attraction to coins was their history. Anything old for that matter. Although I will say my primary focus is junk box coins. It's the excitement of finding a coin that purchasing a coin doesn't always offer (though if there is a hunt and bid, that's just as fun).
