I am sure I was not the only one hoping to see your oldest ancient coin @panzerman. Thank you for showing us. I am not disappointed. It is gorgeous. The reverse of your coin appears to have four floors or levels (if we count the surface). It is an extraordinary coin.
Thank you! These electrum coins are about 50/50 silver/gold content. The AV coins from Lydia came later circa 550BC. John
Yes you do. These lion/boar coins of the 5th Century BC, from Kyzicos, are not too expensive. You might be able to find one for around $75 if you look carefully
My oldest 'Money' would be my collection of 'Cowrie Shells' (Shell, Gold-coated Bronze, Terracotta, Bone,). Cowrie shells were used as (Proto) money from the 18th century B.C. in China, Asia, Africa (and some parts of) Europe.
