Rickie...those brown seals are cherry!! Just great!
Do you ever put them on display at a show. I remember the rainbow set they showed at the fun 2 years ago...wow those are still in my head but soo pricey.

As for the guy talking about the 30k collection being huge...think of it this way. He could be 70 and collected for 30 years easy...that's only 1k a year and when he started his collection a 1k item would have been maybe 200 bucks 30 years ago...so most people if they want can amass quite a collection if they work on it slowly for years. It used to drive me crazy too seeing all the huge collections people have but now I just think...what will mine be in 20 years if I keep working at it :D

Well I am only 27 and during my service in the Navy I was spending $200-$300 every 2 weeks on silver. I was buying silver when it was at $5-$6 per oz. When silver hit $20 per oz, I sold over 800 oz. :D That is when I started buying graded coins!! I also buy coins on eBay and sell them again on eBay at a profit.

Thank you for your service, I am around your age and still in the Army but had to spend my money on the wife's bills. Even BAH, BAS, and my rank pay wasn't enough!

I now realize how expensive currency can get. $1000 for a dime, wow!

Oh, and not to start a fight but 19D's lead the way! Hooah!

    Duke,

Thank you for the comments, it's appreciated. To answer your question, no I have never shown my notes at any show. I currently only have around 45 Large Size notes, not including the Obsoletes. My collection is ok, it is not spectacular by any means. Therefore I feel that it does not warrant being shown due to it's size, not it's quality.

These notes rarely leave the safe deposit box and I would not really feel comfortable traveling with them....perhaps one day I may consider it when the collection grows somewhat larger.

I agree with the 30K, in todays terms it is a nice collection but not a major collection. For me, reaching the 100K level is when it just starts to get interesting as well as nervous..

There are and I know many with collections that have value in the hundred's of thousands and above arena...scary huh??

Just think of it like this..when you determine a budget of 25-30K/yr, it only takes 4 yrs to break that barrier...easily done these days (by some folks), if you know what I mean.

    RickieB,
I think when something like that Rainbow notes collection got shown it was insured and transported by the FUN Show so there shouldnt be any worries by the owner as long as the arrangments are acceptable to the owner.
I also agree that 30k is a nice collection but when you look at so many coins that go for 100k just for one it makes a 30k looks so small I'd think...lol
It really depends on what is in that collection. Imagine a 30k set of lincolns would be more impressive then say 30k set of Gobrect Dollars :D

Hummm..now that is interesting...I suppose that if my collection ever grew to a size where it was well known and something like that was to occur, I may consider it....I have looked into the details of an exhibit but that's it, only looked...now if I were to include all the small size and fractionals then we are talking in the number range of 400 plus notes....but it's not finished by a long shot..LOL so I feel it still not worthy.

My collections worth whatever I could convince someone to give me for it,as a whole probably less than selling peicemeal, but it's not worth anything until it's sold so I can't see how anyone could assign a hard number value to anything where the market is in constant flux, even gold and silver and other precious metals prices don't stay the same long enough to look at the price on the computer and type the numbers into a calculator before they change. So for a price I'll just say my love of their beauty!

My collection is from pocket change and worth face value. My most expensive coin would be the $1 coins; they are worth $1.
