My coin addiction. Wow. What a phenomenal way to phrase the question. Really, I feel this is an under-rated thread. Because that really is what it is, in so many ways, an addiction. I mainly collect, and dabble in US Silver and Gold. I have put together what I think most would say is a respectable "collection". I have been "responsible" or rather, I feel I have been, as I have hedged by accumulating bullion in various forms as part of a complete portfolio. And I look at each coin purchase with the eye of a licensed Financial Advisor (a lifetime ago) and weigh it as an investment, whether as part of the collection, or a flip. US Coins are of an age of technology that they are highly uniform and grade-able, allowing reasonably fair markets to take place relative to their price, condition, etc. What I mean by that, is that it is possible for anyone in the marketplace to look at any specific purchase, again, for the collection or a flip, and say "yes, that was a fantastic price you paid". I can comfortably now lay out 5 figures on a coin I feel can be graded and flipped in a reasonable amount of time. (In my case, not a very long time). And that feeling, the "risk", the "high" one gets from profiting; that is very addictionish. Good word. Addictionish™. This is all easily correlated to an addiction. But then. There is the dark side of addiction. @n€iEn†$. Oh my dear, how logic and reason go out the window with ancients. Hi, my name is OldGoldGuy, and I am an addict.
Oh, wait. One last thing. Anything that you do for more than 4 hours a day I think is clinically an addiction, or rather, if you don't do, you feel ill.
Classic commems and nice toners. I've got my eye on a beautiful champagne/golden toned Hawaiian right now...
I'd love to collect patterns, but many of them are just too far out of my budget. I've seen a couple of lightly circulated pattern pieces that were in my price range, though, and I've been tempted to pick up one as a "type" example, so to speak.
Not as nice as CoinZip's '27, but I have in the past been accused of being slightly addicted to 1827 bust halves... What? Just because I own over 150 of them?
The only dimes I like are mercury dimes. The others don't do much for me. I tend to gravitate to large silver coins, but if a design appeals to me, I add a coin or two to the collection. In the case of dimes, the merc dime is the only one I really like.
@Vegas Vic , nice patterns. Are those all yours? I haven't seen you post them before. I particulary like the 1870 seated half. I don't much about it, but I like it better than the circulated version.
Because people used to tell me that it was too difficult to attribute them since there were so many different die marriages. People should never tell me that I can't do something.
