What is wrong with this dime?

    Circulation wear and tear.. also could of been caught in between the wall and the drum of a clothes dryer which wore down the edge.
    Not a Mint Error of any kind.

    Exactly.

    Interesting to see one from the 1980s so worn, though. I mean, it's not that uncommon to see the 1946-64 silver ones with this much wear, because those got used a lot more in commerce (back when dimes were silver, they could still buy a fair amount of stuff).

    But on a later, copper-nickel clad coin only 38 years old , that degree of wear is rather unusual.

    I like it, in a perverse sort of way.

    I hear you. I got a 1971 quarter in change the other day. The wear and grime gave it that perfect circ-cam look. Yes, I set it aside....

    Yep. That photo is almost identical to some dryer coins I've seen. If you check the edge of the coin, you'll most likely see the knurls worn off. Coins that get stuck in between the drum of commercial dryers get that type of wear. Dryer dime.jpg
