What is this? I got it in a bag of foreign coins my dealer gave me and can't figure out what what country it's from.
not finding it hmmm. at first I thought it was Yemen or United Arab Emirates. if a member knows the country I can look it up in my catalogs and give you more info on it... Egypt or turkey or Saudi Arabia ???
If it helps it says 20 on one side. I think that's the denomination. It doesn't look like the common Middle Eastern countries you see. It's not Turkey or Egypt. Yemen was a good guess.
If you check all of the usual suspects in the Middle East and don't find it, check the Indian states. Sometimes their coins look Middle Eastern.
Turkish 20 para token used for crossing the Bosphorus - (Galata bridge that separates Europe from Asia in Istanbul, Turkey) during the 1910-27 period.
Great, wcoins! Had no idea about the purpose of the token. Let me just add that the bridge connects the Old Town and the Beyoğlu quarter, both on the "European" side ... Christian
Thanks for the correction Also it'd be more correct to call it Ottoman than Turkish since Turkey didn't become a Republic until 1923.
